'Susucaru Rosato' Frank Cornelissen 2025
The rosé wine "Susucaru" is a blend of different grapes from old vines grown on lava terraces. Fresh, elegant, and with a torrential drinkability, it stands out for a bouquet of crunchy red fruit, mineral puffs, and marine touches. A refreshing squeeze of Etna.
Susucaru Rossato is the rosé wine by Frank Cornelissen, a Belgian artisan, who has captivated the public with its vibrancy and expressive power. It originates among the lava stones on the slopes of Etna from a selection of old vines, mostly grown as bush vines and on their own roots, which have managed to withstand the attack of phylloxera.
It is produced from a blend of Malvasia, Moscato Nero, Nerello Mascalese, and Catarratto from the districts of Picciolo, Pietramarina, Calderara soprana, Crasà, and Muganazze. The vineyards, located on the northern side of the volcano, are cultivated at various altitudes on soils that undergo no chemical treatment, allowing them to grow in the wild nature of the area. The vinification takes place in fiberglass tanks for several months. Cornelissen's philosophy is to let the bottled wine retain all its primary aromas, which is why he does not filter and does not use barriques.
Rossato Susucaru is a rosé wine with the guise of a red, a lightweight on the grand stage that stands out for its uncontrollable nature. The wine is rustic and represents a direct reflection of the territory where it was grown. The color is already something extraordinary, an intense pink tending towards raspberry red. On the nose, it wafts delicate and subtle aromas of red berries, and vegetal notes meet on a pleasantly rustic background. The minerality is the cornerstone that, with the addition of a hint of sapidity and freshness, creates a vibrant harmony. On one hand, it retains elegance and style, while on the other, it is recognized for its originality and spontaneity.
