Derthona 'Costa del Vento' Vigneti Massa 2023

The Derthona “Costa del Vento”, produced by Vigneti Massa, is one of Walter Massa's best creations, who has been able to enhance the tradition of viticulture in the Colli Tortonesi area. It is mainly due to his tenacity and commitment that the native white grape variety Timorasso has been rediscovered. The label is part of the high-end line of wines from the winery, which expresses the peculiarities of the best company crus, highlighting their particular expressive nuances. It is an intense, elegant, and deep white wine that offers a complex and very persistent sip, making it one of the most interesting wines in our wine heritage.

“Costa del Vento” is an excellent Derthona that confirms the quality of the wines offered by the Vigneti Massa estate. The winery is the classic family-run reality present since the late 1800s in the Colli Tortonesi area. Today, the property extends over 23 hectares, with vineyards cultivated on sunny and mild hilly exposures in lower Piemonte. The majority of the vineyards are cultivated with Timorasso, which represents the true ambassador of thisterroir, but there are also some plots dedicated to the typical red grape varieties of the area, especially Barbera and Croatina. The wine comes from a plot with a sunny exposure facing southwest, located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. The grapes undergo a cold maceration of about 40 hours before proceeding to soft pressing. The free-run must ferments spontaneously in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine matures for 12 months in steel tanks on the fine lees with periodic bâtonnage and completes the aging with a few months in the bottle before being put on sale.

The Timorasso Derthona “Costa del Vento” from Vigneti Massa is a white wine that possesses a remarkable personality. Although already pleasant to drink right away, it needs a few years of bottle aging to reach full maturity and express all its fascinating aromatic complexity. In the glass, it presents a beautiful bright and luminous light yellow color. The olfactory profile is intense and elegant, with notes of medicinal herbs, balsamic and resinous sensations, floral nuances, and aromas of peach, ripe fruit,enriched by a delicately spicy touch.
